Application of Natural and Traditional Medicine in hypertension’s treatment

Background: cardiovascular diseases represent the main cause of mortality at the international and national levels. Natural and Traditional Medicine is a useful alternative for the treatment of it.
Objective: to describe the application of Natural and Traditional Medicine techniques in the treatment of arterial hypertension.
Methods: a review of the literature was made in the Scopus, ClinicalKey, SciELO and LILACS databases. The combination of terms was applied as a search strategy, using modality and disease. Of the 216 articles recovered, 30 were selected for the development of this research.
Development: the use of the modalities of Natural and Traditional Medicine are incorporated into the curricula of medical sciences careers. Its application for the treatment of hypertension is based on the different physiological mechanisms that these activate; promoting the normalization of blood pressure. The demonstrated influence of the different modalities of this medicine in blood pressure, makes necessary the improvement of the study plans, as well as the training and periodic evaluation of the state of its application.
Conclusions: Natural and Traditional Medicine shows to be a powerful tool for the treatment of hypertension, as well as for many other diseases, hence the need to learn from the first years of the Bachelor of Medical Sciences students. It must continue with dissemination, as well as training and application from primary health care.
