Analysis of scientific production in pediatrics during the period 2014–2024 in SciELO

Abstract

Introduction: Bibliometric analysis in pediatrics identifies trends, gaps, and priorities in scientific production, providing key insights for researchers, clinicians, and healthcare managers.

Objective: To analyze the level of scientific production on pediatrics in SciELO during the period 2014–2024.

Methods: A bibliometric, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of scientific articles published in SciELO. The study population included all 6,070 articles; none were excluded. Variables analyzed were: SciELO collection, publication year, document type, citable items, and language. Statistical measures such as absolute frequency and percentage relative frequency were applied. Results are presented in tables and charts.

Results: Most articles belonged to the Argentina collection. The highest output was concentrated in 2020, with original articles prevailing as the dominant document type. The vast majority were citable items, and Spanish was the predominant language.

Conclusions: The study reveals research trends in pediatrics, highlighting established areas. Spanish-language production in SciELO reflects advances, but greater visibility of local knowledge is required to strengthen policies and clinical practices. The need to prioritize research aligned with the real needs of the pediatric population is emphasized.
