Erectile dysfunction resulting from primary hypogonadism. Case reports

Abstract

Introduction: Erectile dysfunction, or impotence, is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. When erectile dysfunction is a consequence of primary hypogonadism, it indicates a failure of the testicle as the organ responsible for testosterone production, leading to several consequences in a man's life, many of which are irreversible.
Objective: To describe the case of a young patient with erectile dysfunction resulting from primary hypogonadism at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital of Santiago de Cuba in 2022.
Clinical case: A case is reported of a 25-year-old male patient who underwent a right radical orchiectomy six months ago due to a Leydig cell tumor. Following the surgery, he received chemotherapy and radiotherapy for three months. He seeks urology consultation for evaluation and treatment due to his inability to have sexual relations with his partner.
Conclusions: Although erectile dysfunction is much more common in older age groups, it is not exclusive to these ages. The patient is receiving treatment with the vasodilator drug Sildenafil, a first-line treatment that has yielded favorable results, thereby reversing the erectile dysfunction.
