Surgical Management of Hernia Amyand. Case report
Abstract
Introduction: Amyand's hernia is a rare type of inguinal hernia whose content is the cecal appendix, with reports of less than 1 % incidence.
Objective: To present a case of Amyand's hernia in an elderly patient.
Clinical Case: 73-year-old patient with a history of arterial hypertension who reported severe pain in the right inguinal region accompanied by protrusion of an irreducible tumor mass that increased in size. It was decided to intervene with the clinical diagnosis of stuck right inguinal hernia. During surgery, acute gangrenous appendicitis was identified within the inguinal hernia sac. An appendectomy and repair of the hernia defect were performed.
Conclusions: Due to the low incidence of Amyand's hernia, it is important to include it as a differential diagnosis within conditions such as acute abdomen or complicated inguinal hernia. In medical practice, it is difficult to achieve timely diagnosis and treatment, which will depend on the experience of the surgeon and the supplies available in the hospital setting.
